 Snow at Caius

From 1998, if not before, the Master of Caius College and his wife sent a Christmas card to myself and presumably numerous alumni of the College.  Each one was beautifully produced and each year showed a different view of the College in times gone by.  I reciprocated by sending each year a personalised card produced on my computer.

In September 2003 I sent the Master a paper copy of The Coventry Miracle and said I would like to obtain a theological view on the event.  I received a letter in reply saying that it was a remarkable story and that he would pass the paper to the Dean..

In June 2005, not long before his retirement, I sent the Master a paper copy of the OVERVIEW section of my website, which at that time included Cambridge Town and Cambridge Gown.  I received a reply that he would read it after the next hectic month had passed.  The Cambridge Gown included, then as now, a reference to my meeting Lord Snow at the the door of The Master's Lodge of Caius College and an analysis of the 'winkling out' process by English Electric.  A summary of that first encounter and later personal references to Lord Snow is given in:-

The new Master, a diplomat, took up his Office in January 2006. In June I attended the May Week Party but did not get to talk to him.  As Christmas 2006 approached I wondered if the new Master would continue sending Christmas cards.

The card arrived on Saturday 24th December.  I looked at it in some amazement - the picture of Caius was of the Gate of Honour seen through a fall of snow and it must have been photographed from the covered passage just outside the door of The Master's Lodge!

(The picture is not here reproduced as it was provided to the Master by the courtesy of a Professor and I have not sought his permission).
