Withdrawal from Instrument & Measurement activities in IEE & IOP

I decided to relinquish my professional institution activities in the Measuring Instruments field.  I felt that most of the disruption in my life came from activities in that field and that by withdrawing from it I stood a better chance of getting a job free from interference.

The first activity to go was my Chairmanship of IEE Professional Group E1 on Electronic Measuring Instruments and Techniques, which I had been responsible for setting up while I was at the Cavendish Laboratory.  I nominated Dr. C.H. (Charlie) Vincent of the Atomic Weapons Research Establishment as my successor and he took up the reins from the beginning of October 1967 while to provide continuity I stayed on as Past Chairman for one more year.

I also set in motion plans to relinquish Chairmanship of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Scientific Instruments.
