IEE Professional Group E1 up and running

Recruitment of members to IEE Professional Group E1 (Electronic Measuring Instruments & Techniques) had proceed well and in May 1963 its first meeting took place at Savoy Place, the usual venue. Members of E1 were I.A. Harris, I.C. Hutcheon, H. Sutcliffe, Dr. C.H. Vincent & E.S. Ward. I was in the chair and J.L. Regan was Secretary.  63e24 .

I was now getting more involved in the IEE - for example in June 1963 I attended a Papers Committee (which considered contributions to the Proceedings of the IEE) and a meeting of the Electronics Divisional Board, which I was entitled to attend as a Chairman of one of its Professional Groups. 63f19. I also chaired another meeting of E1 at which J.R. Thompson joined the Committee. M.P. Bellamy was in attendance. 63f28. A third meeting of E1 took place on the last day of the 1962-63 Session, 30th September 1963.   63i30 .

Increasing involvement in the IEE

On 1st October 1963 a new phase of my IEE activities opened up. I had received a letter from the IEE inviting me, on the authority of Mr. J.A. Ratcliffe, to fill a casual vacancy on the IEE Electronics Divisional Board. R.E. Burnett had made it clear that he wanted me to get involved in the IEE so I had no hesitation in accepting the invitation.  63i03 . Thus from the start of the 1963-64 Session I was a full member of the Board and attended most of its meetings.  63j01 .

Meetings of Professional Group E1 continued and I also found myself chairing open discussions on particular technical topics e.g on D.C. Amplifiers, on VLF measurements (speakers J.L. Douce, H. Sutcliffe & Prof. J.C. West).   63k25 .  63l09 . I also attended by invitation and contributed to a discussion at the IEE on The Teaching of Electrical Measurements, opened by D. Edmundson of AEI. 63l17. The Lecture and Dinner after the Electronics Divisional Board meetings also gave much pleasure.
